Estevan artist Amber Andersen is making a triumphant return to the art world with her first solo exhibits in nearly two decades. Her indoor and outdoor displays, Touch Grass and Grounded, are currently on view in Weyburn. Andersen's work explores the relationship between humans and nature, leisure, and each other, particularly in the digital age. The artist explains that the phrase 'Touch Grass' has evolved from a sarcastic internet meme to a gentle reminder to find solace in the real world, away from screens. This theme is reflected in her use of wallpaper, craft-based processes, and cyanotypes, a traditional printmaking technique, to create stunning pieces. Andersen's work in the Get Out Gallery emphasizes the importance of being outdoors to truly experience nature. Her installations invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences and relationships with the world around them. Andersen's return to her art practice is a significant moment, as she had stepped away from creating art for much of her career while working as an administrator in various art galleries.
